You have to set the coordinates in Settings in degrees, minutes and seconds, to match those of Virtual Regatta.
Please note: don't be fooled by the white lines symbolizing the route: they're only there to look pretty, and they're not the same in the 2 applications, as the VR one isn't sent to us.
To compare your position, simply tap/click on your boat in both applications and read the respective coordinates as shown below:
