Sending a routing to Virtual Regatta
BeginnerThe essentials
A routing becomes real when you send its orders to VR: eSail4VR programs them on the game servers and your boat follows them.
- Open the “Routings” tab of the left pane.
- On the routing row, press the send button, under the table button.
- Confirm: “Please confirm the programming of the routing on the VR servers”. (With Expert mode on, the button opens the order editor instead, where you adjust and then press “Send”.)
- When VR answers, the message “Orders received by VR. The white dotted line is the route your boat will now sail with them, on the current forecast. Near land or an exclusion zone, zoom in to check it stays clear.” is displayed.
If sending fails, the message is “Failed to send orders to VR”.
Sending requires a valid subscription; otherwise the application answers “This feature requires a valid subscription” and offers to subscribe.

Going further
The confirmation after 12 minutes. The send button takes into account the age of the boat position used for the calculation:
- under 12 minutes: sending happens with no warning;
- from 12 to 22 minutes: the application warns “The boat position used to calculate this routing is … min old. The boat has moved since: we advise you to calculate the routing again. Send the orders to VR anyway?” (or, in Expert mode, “Open the orders dialog anyway?”), with the buttons “Send” (or “Open”) and “No”;
- beyond 22 minutes: the button disappears; run a new routing. For a routing from a pivot point, the position of the initial routing is what counts.
The button exists only for your own routings.
Checking that VR took the orders. After the success message, wait a little and reload the game page. Zoom in enough on your boat to see your programming points. The white dotted line in eSail4VR is the route the boat will sail with these orders, on the current forecast; it is redrawn from the orders VR actually holds.
Do not let the programming run out. Orders cover a limited time (see Programming points). After the last one, the boat keeps the last order. Run and send a new routing before you reach it, especially in Wind mode (closed padlock in VR).
Race with restricted sending. For some races, the organizer restricts sending orders from eSail4VR: the application says so with “The race organiser has restricted sending orders from eSail4VR for this race.”, with the buttons “Ok” and “Cancel”. “Ok” sends the orders in “Auto” mode.
