The skip orders tolerance
ExpertThe essentials
The number of orders VR accepts is limited (see Programming points). The “Skip orders tolerance” setting, in the editor under “Order type”, lets you skip an order when it looks like the previous one.
- Values: from 0° to 5°, in steps of 1°. The default value is 0°.
- An order is ignored if its angle (or heading) differs from the previous one by at most the tolerance, and it is on the same tack and of the same type.
- The larger the tolerance, the fewer the orders, and the more time the programming covers.
- To program a long period, for example at night, increase it.
The setting is remembered from one use to the next.
The Skip orders tolerance setting
Going further
The exact rule. An order is kept if any of these three conditions is true:
- its angle differs from the previous kept one by more than the tolerance;
- the tack changes (starboard / port);
- the type changes (TWA / heading).
The first order is always kept. A skipped order is simply ignored: the value of the previous one is held until the next.
The price of tolerance. A skipped order means the boat holds, during that time, the angle of the previous order rather than the routing’s, with a gap of at most the tolerance. The preview on the map shows the resulting route.
Why the value starts again from zero. Since October 2026, the setting is stored under a new key and everyone starts again from 0°: the polished routing already merges small angle changes by itself.
In “Waypoints” mode. The tolerance also plays on the choice of waypoints: a waypoint whose heading differs by less than the tolerance from the previous one, on the same tack, is omitted, unless it is needed to avoid land, ice or an exclusion zone.
