Deferred start for a record

Beginner

The essentials

On a record whose boat has not started yet, the “+” button first opens the “Record start time” window. It lists the possible start times; “Routing” next to a time computes the route for a start at that moment.

The start itself is made in VR, not in eSail4VR. The procedure:

  1. Make the routing in eSail4VR, choosing the start time.
  2. Set the first heading by hand in VR.
  3. At the chosen time, “Start an attempt” in VR.
  4. As soon as eSail4VR has received the first position, run a new routing and send it.

The “Best starts” button opens a web page presenting the best start windows for the record.

Going further

The times offered. The first row is the current time. Then come:

  • one start every hour for the next 24 hours (from the next full hour);
  • one start every 3 hours on the second day;
  • one start every 6 hours up to the fifth day;
  • one start every 12 hours up to the tenth day.

Times are shown in your device’s local time, with the day and month.

Forecast limit. A start too far away may go beyond the end of the forecast: the application then answers “Routing impossible as it starts after the end of the weather forecast”. The forecast stops at a given forecast hour ("+384" in the identifier example of the weather file page), earlier without a Premium subscription (see The weather file).

When the window opens. Only for a record, while the boat is waiting to start, and for a routing from the boat (not from a pivot point). In other cases, “+” opens the target window directly.

The “Best starts” button. It only appears when the record analysis is available in the application. The same page is available on the website, in the record start windows section.
